Existing electronic payment services are very much technology and operator dependent. This is one of the primary reasons, why they cannot cope with new challenges, the technical development and new requirements.
The SEMOPS service is considered to be independent from technical, operational, and commercial aspects.
Technical independence means that the service can be used under various technical conditions.
Communication: The payment service is designed to be a 3G service however it is operational in the present GSM environment and also on the Internet. The communication protocols used are also covering a wide selection, IrDA, NFC, SMS, USSD, GPRS, TCP/IP.
Platform: The variety of the front and modules used by the customers and the merchants provides the chance for the users to select the best fit with their existing infrastructure. Modules are available on SIMToolkit, JAVA and Op. Sys. versions and a special development was also completed for POS terminals.
In case of the back-end modules platform and software independence was a key objective to allow simple and inexpensive deployment-integration of the service.
The platform independence allows customers to use the service with their existing handsets without the need to change it, but in case of replacement the uninterrupted usage is further ensured, even in case of technically more advanced terminals.
Independence for the user means that even if all components of the service are changed the uninterrupted service will be ensured for the customer, or the merchant. In its extremes it means that even if the user moves to a different country, where the communication technology is different from the one used at its earlier location, changes its mobile operator, and opens an account with a new bank, and also wishes to replace its handset with another more modern one, or with another one that has a different SIM card in it, the same service will still be available and all the transactions that were available earlier are still accessible for the user. |
